Tyre - Shells fired from Israeli-occupied south Lebanon hit a Lebanese army checkpoint on the main coastal highway yesterday, killing two people and wounding three, Lebanese army sources said. The attack followed a day of heavy air attacks by Israel.
The army said the deaths were caused by two tank shells fired at dusk from a position held by the South Lebanon Army, the local militia paid by Israel to help it control the occupation zone. A soldier and a 20-year-old man who ran a petrol station opposite the army barrier were killed.
