Republic of Ireland full-back Steve Finnan is likely to miss the Euro 2004 qualifier with Switzerland after picking up a new knee injury.

The right-back, a sensation in the World Cup, sustained medial ligament damage during Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, ironically a match in which he made his comeback from another knee problem.

Finnan is definitely out of Fulham’s home UEFA Cup date with Hajduk Split and Sunday's clash with Charlton at Loftus Road.

And Cottagers physio Jason Palmer does not believe he will be fit for Mick McCarthy's international date in Dublin a fortnight today, October 16th.
