This tale follows the story of Dr Jack Hunt, a talented heart surgeon with a young family who has all his dreams answered when he lands the top job at a renowned Chicago hospital, but whose life soon plunges into nightmare. Assassination attempts, intimidation, and disturbing medical experimentations all feature and to great effect. From the first line, Paul Carson's book draws you in and makes for compelling reading. While the antagonist of the piece is clear from the beginning, Paul Carson's description of a family, systematically stalked and attacked, especially the vicious assault on a little boy, is gripping. He even manages to bring tension to the signing of a work contract. In criticism, the characters we come across all seem to have been written countless times before in countless other books. This is the third novel from Carson - his two previous books, Scalpel and Cold Steel also dealt with the corrupt side of the medical profession.
