Four candidates will tonight vie for the nomination to stand for Fine Gael in the Dublin Mid-West constituency at the next general election.
Around 60 party delegates from the constituency are expected to vote at the nomination convention in the Spa Hotel in Lucan tonight.
The most high-profile candidate in the line-up is former Fine Gael TD Frances Fitzgerald who served as a TD in Dublin South East for 10 years.
She lost her seat at the last general election in 2002 to the current Minister for Justice Michael McDowell.
Ms Fitzgerald, who lives close to Dublin Mid-West, which is centred on the Lucan and Clondalkin area, will be strongly challenged by former Fine Gael senator and sitting councillor Therese Ridge.
Ms Ridge, a former teacher, is currently Cathaoirleach of South Dublin County Council to which she was first elected in 1985.
The nomination is also being sought by party activist and solicitor Francis Fitzpatrick and Paul Callan, a physicist.
