A Galway city councillor was charged before Galway District Court yesterday with breaching the peace in the city last July.
Fine Gael councillor Padraig Conneely, Dun Daingan, Newcastle, Galway, did not appear in court and was not legally represented when the case was first called.
Cllr Conneely, elected in 2003, is charged with using or engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour with intent to breach the peace at Prospect Hill, Galway, on July 29th.
Valerie Corcoran, solicitor, undertook to contact a firm of solicitors, whom prosecuting Garda Insp Tony O'Donnell said might have an interest in the case.
Ms Corcoran told the court that WB Glynn & Co, solicitors, were acting for Mr Conneely. They wanted an adjournment and to view Garda statements on the alleged offence.
Judge Mary Fahy agreed to adjourn the matter to December 12th and ordered that statements be sent to Mr Glynn's office.
