Fianna FAIL has confirmed it is to hand over details of every donation made to the party in the last 20 years to the Moriarty tribunal.
An FF ail spokeswoman told The Irish Times last night that the tribunal requested in the last few weeks records of donations going back to the late 1970s and that the party is co-operating in full.
The FF ail finance director, Mr Hugh Dolan, will spend the coming weeks trawling through extensive financial records at the Mount Street headquarters in Dublin.
The party has kept detailed records of financial donations over the years. Party sources said last night they were confident they would be able to supply the tribunal with the documentation it was looking for.
There was intense speculation yesterday as to why the tribunal chairman, Mr Justice Moriarty, took the unprecedented step to seek the records. Sources said last night that one reason could be to see if all money intended for the party was actually received by it.
