Fianna Fail's transport spokesman, Mr Seamus Brennan, has accused the Minister for Transport, Mr Dukes, of "cynical electioneering", and a "phoney announcement" by giving the impression that the Government has approved the Ballymun light rail.
Mr Brennan said that "all that is approved is a design for the Ballymun Luas and not the actual line. This is borne out by CIE's application to the Minister which is just to build two lines, not three."
He said no provision had been made "for the £14.75 million necessary to extend the [Dundrum] line to Sandyford, 6so it is phoney for Mr Dukes to be claiming it is approved. Again, only the design has been approved."
