A JOINT Anglo Irish investigation of underwater munitions dumping has been criticised as "disappointing, incomplete and inadequate".
The Fianna Fail MEP for Connacht Ulster, Mr Pat `the Cope' Gallagher, said the investigation appeared to focus only on the Beaufort Dyke area between Scotland and Ireland, and not on other dumping sites around the Irish coast.
However, the Department of the Marine said other areas were included in the investigation.
The Anglo Irish project follows suspension of work on a British Gas underwater pipeline and concern over the siting of an electricity interconnector between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Work on the pipeline is believed to have disturbed the munitions, leading to explosions at sea and the appearance of phosphorous canisters on Irish coasts.
The two governments are to conduct a survey of the Dyke and a wider area where munitions may have been dumped.
