The woman was brought to the Intensive Care Unit of Portlaoise General Hospital shortly before 7am and remains under observation and in a stable condition tonight, festival organisers said.

A second person was brought some hours later as a precaution, but it is understood was not admitted.

The pair were among 12 people sleeping in a specially converted double-decker bus and the carbon monoxide is believed to have come from a faulty generator on board.

A festival spokeswoman said: “At 6.43am this morning local emergency services responded to a 999 call next to the campervan site at the Electric to a privately hired specially converted double decker bus.

“The bed bus had been sleeping 12 people. The call was initiated due to apparent carbon monoxide poisoning leaking form a faulty generator on the bus.

“One person was taken to the Intensive Care Unit in Portlaoise General Hospital and now remains under observation and remains stable.

“The site medical team followed up with the remaining eleven people on the bus, and sent a second person to hospital as a precaution.”

The vehicle, which was privately hired and driven by the 12 people to the festival on Friday, has been sealed off.

spokeswoman for Portlaoise General Hospital said the woman, whose age is unknown, remains in hospital tonight under observation.

“There’s one patient in Portlaoise Hospital for observation. She may be released this evening or released tomorrow.”

Thousands of wellie wearing revellers set up camp in Co Laois on Friday for three days of music and diverse entertainment.

More than 200 acts entertained music fans, including Sigur Ros which headlined the main stage on Friday and Funk veteran George Clinton and Franz Ferdinand who played yesterday.

But the weird and wonderful also rolled in circus style setting where the spoken word, cookery workshops, theatre and arts all added to the Electric Picnic package.
