A final-year law student from UCD has been named winner of the Thomas Addis Emmet fellowship. This is a new fellowship in international public interest law, organised jointly by the Irish Free Legal Aid Centres and the University of Washington in Seattle.
Ms Nuala Ni Mhuir cheartaigh identified and analysed freedom of expression, refugee law and human rights protection in the context of world relations. She was chosen by a selection committee of prominent Irish lawyers and Mr Justice Barrington of the Supreme Court.
She will spend two months in a clinic in Seattle which provides public legal services.
