A MAN who was arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of his mother in Roscommon last weekend is currently in the Central Mental Hospital, a court was told yesterday.
Paul Henry (25), Abbeytown, Roscommon town, was remanded in custody when he appeared before Galway District Court on Monday.
He is charged with assaulting his mother, Ann Henry, causing her harm, contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, at The Spinney, Abbeytown, last Saturday afternoon.
The defendant had been due to appear before Harristown District Court in Roscommon yesterday morning.
His solicitor, Bríd Miller, told Judge Geoffrey Browne that her client was in the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.
She said it was not known how long he would be there.
Ms Miller asked that an order be made that her client be assessed by consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Paul O’Connell.
Judge Browne made the order and remanded the defendant in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on October 7th.
Ms Henry (49) died from multiple stab wounds following an incident at her home last Saturday.
