Dun Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee has lifted a recruitinent ban on FAS sponsored community enterprise schemes, and reaffirmed its commitment to the continuation of seven projects in the town. The move follows an emergency meeting of the VEC last night which was picketed by up to 100 people protesting at the ban.
At the meeting, which was closed to the press, the VEC agreed a plan, which includes immediate discussions with FAS and the Department of Education to ensure the long term viability of the projects, and a meeting as soon as possible between the manager of the schemes and their co ordinators.
The seven community enterprise programmes affected were the Mariners' Project, 46A Publications, Sport Eco, Access Community Network, Options Radio Productions, Loughlinstown Employment Group and a community support services scheme.
