Young farmers at the annual Macra na Feirme conference in Waterford were told by the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, they must prepare for payments by the electronic mail system, writes Sean MacConnell.
He said more than £1 billion had been paid out to farmers in the last two years involving on average, 1.56 million cheques. But a pilot project was under way allowing farmers to submit application forms for headage and premia schemes electronically.
