A farmer appeared in court yesterday charged with interfering with cattle ear-tag numbers.

Joseph Burke of Barbane, Broadford, Co Clare, was charged at Killaloe District Court with two counts of interfering with or altering an animal’s ear tag contrary to Article 19 (7) of the Brucellosis in Cattle Order 2001 at Barbane on October 30th, 2001.

He is also charged with failing to keep in his register a record of the particulars required by Reg 20(1) of the European Communities (Identification and Reg of Bovine Animals).

Mr Burke faces a total of 40 charges from the same date, most of which relate to alleged irregularities in his herd register. Judge Joseph Mangan adjourned the case to December 7th next.
