A Mid-Ulster dairy farmer was fined £500 at Cookstown, Co Tyrone, Magistrates Court yesterday for discharging silage effluent into an "important trout-rearing waterway". Jennifer Acheson, of Tullylagan Road, Cookstown, was also ordered to pay costs of £265 after admitting the offence. A lawyer for the Department of the Environment said the effluent had "grossly polluted" more than three miles of the Drum river, a tributary of the Ballinderry river.
