Friends of Dingle's most famous tourist attraction, Fungie the dolphin, thought he had received a letter from Egypt and written in Arabic too.
The envelope addressed to "Doplin, Irlanda, Ingland" had been forwarded to Kerry by An Post staff who surmised that it must be for Fungie.
The Kerryman newspaper took up the story this week, as did the Pat Kenny radio programme, which made contact with the Egyptian embassy. An extract from the letter was faxed to the embassy in Dublin where a woman concluded that the letter was not for the Kerry dolphin after all.
