The parents and brother of three family members killed in a fire in Drogheda yesterday morning are still being treated at two Dublin hospitals.
James McDonagh (8) and Tony jnr (16) died along with 21-year-old Martin in the early morning fire at their home on the Moneymore estate on the northside of Drogheda town.
Their parents, Kathleen and Tony McDonagh, were taken in St James’s Hospital. Mr McDonagh was treated in the burns unit before being release today. His wife Kathleen remains in intensive care. Her injuries have been described as ‘not life-threatening’.
Their 13 year-old son Eddie, who managed to escape but was critically injured, is being treated at Temple Street Childrens Hospital. His condition was described today as "stable".
The fire was noticed by neighbours at about 7.30am and they made several desperate attempts to reach those trapped inside, but were beaten back by the heat.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
