A man and his seven-month-old daughter escaped uninjured when a shotgun was fired through the front window of their Antrim town home. The incident happened shortly before midnight on Sunday at Craigmore Park, a loyalist area of the town. In a follow-up security operation, a man was arrested by police.
Seven men are to be charged in Coleraine district court this morning with possession of imitation firearms with intent to commit an indictable offence. They were arrested on Sunday night after two cars were stopped by police at Ruskey Road, Aghadowey, near Coleraine, Co Derry.
And shortly before 10.30 p.m. on Sunday a number of men entered a house at the Glade, Mossley, near Newtownabbey, on the outskirts of Belfast. They were planning a so-called punishment beating, it is believed.
Armed with baseball bats they searched the house but left when they could not find their intended victim. No one was injured.
Meanwhile, the IRA has said that it was not responsible for the brutal beating of Ms Kerry Deeds (17), from Belfast, on Saturday. She suffered two broken arms and overall bruising when she was attacked by a number of men wielding hurleys as she took a shortcut through a field in west Belfast.
A caller, claiming to represent the IRA and using a recognised codeword, told the Irish News the assault had nothing to do with the republican movement.
