THE DART line is to get its 26th station, at a cost to CIE of almost £500,000.
It is understood that the £1.4 million station in Fairview, north Dublin, will be completed by October. CIE is to fund 35 per cent of the development. The balance will come from Brussels.
The Minister for Transport, Mr Lowry, announced yesterday that funding had been allocated for the station under the Operational Programme.
The station would fill the gap between Killester and Connolly stations, he said, and service Clontarf, Marino and a new industrial and office park being developed off East Wall. Access to the" station will be via a footpath from Clontarf Road and an access road from Alfie Byrne Road.
The Department estimated it would be used by more than a quarter of a million people. The station had been recommended by the Dublin Transportation Initiative (DTI), said Mr Lowry.
A Department spokesman said it would be "business as usual" during the construction and services would not be disrupted on the line.
Mr Lowry and the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, visited the site of the proposed station yesterday morning.
The DTI has also recommended a second new Dart station on Barrow Street, between Pearse Station and Lansdowne Road. The Department spokesman said this was still under consideration.
