An Army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on a device in Dublin.

Members of the Defence Forces were deployed to Turvey Avenue, Inchicore, following a request by gardaí shortly after 3pm. The area was cordoned off and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.

An Army spokesman said the device was located in a green area near private residences. "The viable device was made safe in situ by means of a controlled explosion,” he added.

“The remains of the device have been removed to a secure military location for further examination and will then be handed over to the gardaí to assist with their investigations.” The scene was declared safe just after 4pm.
