Beijing - A total of six people were killed and more than 50 injured in separate bombings in three cities in China over the weekend, reports Miriam Donohoe. Terrorism has been ruled out as a motive behind two of the three attacks in the cities of Zhanjiang and Jiangmen in the southern province of Guangdong, and in a McDonald's restaurant in the ancient city of Xi'an.
The blast in McDonald's on Saturday killed one person. The restaurant reopened for business yesterday under heavy police guard. According to Police, the blast was triggered deliberately by the person killed in the explosion. Thirty people were injured and two are critical. Xi'an is home to a sizeable ethnic Uighur Muslim population. China blames Uighur separatists for a series of bombings in western China. It is still not known if there is any connection with Saturday's attack.
