It is reasonable for schools to continue to hold indoor soccer games on pitches laid out in ordinary sports halls, a judge has held. Judge Esmonde Smyth gave his ruling in a case in which a former schoolboy sued his former school for up to £30,000 damages for injuries he received almost five years ago in a five-aside soccer match in the school gymnasium.
Judge Smyth told Mr Charles Meenan, counsel for Old Bawn Community School and the Minister for Education, that Mr Michael Drew (20), of Tymon Close, Tallaght, had failed to prove negligence.
He did not award costs against the plaintiff.
