Former Fine Gael Cllr Tom Morrissey was last night selected to coil test the general election for the Progressive Democrats in Dublin West.
Mr Morrissey, a member of Fingal County Council, was selected at a convention in Chapelizod. The meeting was chaired by the former PD leader, Mr Des O'Malley, who said the party's campaign would focus sharply on the issues of tax reform and tough anti-crime measures.
Mr Morissey recently defected from Fine Gael because, according to a PD statement last night, he had become increasingly disillusioned with Fine Gael's "role in an increasingly left-wing Government".
