Everton have agreed a fee with Coventry City for Lee Carsley, according to the Goodison Park side's official website.
The deal looked to have died when Coventry turned down Everton's offer of £1.4 million - rising to £1.75 million on appearances - for the 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
But Everton have had a revised bid accepted by the Highfield Road board, and the club website, www.evertonfc.com, claims it falls well below Coventry's £2 million valuation of the player.
Carsley will travel to Merseyside this morning to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms in the hope he can be installed in the Everton squad for tomorrow's game with Arsenal.
The deal must be completed by noon for the Carsley to be eligible, but Everton are confident they can push the transfer through in time.
