A series of events planned to promote physical exercise among women will take place this Thursday to coincide with Ireland's Breast Health Day.
With an estimated 10 to 16 per cent of breast cancers related to a lack of exercise, breast cancer campaign group Europa Donna Ireland (EDI) has organised 22 free events around the country to increase awareness of the value of regular physical activity.
Speaking about Breast Health Day Christine Murphy Whyte, Chair of EDI said:
“Exercise is vital to maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle. Six women a day are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland and women have the opportunity to help reduce their risk of breast cancer by increasing their physical activity.
“What women do from the youngest age can influence their future and engaging in moderate exercise for at least 30-60 minutes every day is an easy and achievable step towards better breast health.
Tips on measures women can take to improve their health and information about this week's events can be found on EDI's website ( www.europadonnaireland.ie).
