THERE should he a European super agency to tackle child abduction, according to the Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Ms Mary Banotti.
All missing children would be reported to this agency. "As borders disappear, it has become increasingly easy for children to be snatched. I believe that, particularly in mainland. Europe, it is vital to report missing children to a central co ordinating and investigative agency immediately."
The Fianna Fail law reform spokesman, Mr Willie O'Dea, said the child sex scandal in Belgium was a "chilling warning" that there was now an urgent need for a national register of sex offenders.
