Euro zone second-quarter GDP up 0.1%

Euro zone GDP in the second quarter rose by 0.1 per cent from the previous quarter and by 1.7 per cent year-on-year, according to revised figures from the EU statistical office Eurostat.

The figures were unchanged from the provisional second-quarter GDP release.

In the EU, GDP was up by 0.1 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis and 1.8 per cent higher than a year earlier, Eurostat said.

Provisional figures showed EU second-quarter GDP up by 0.1 per cent from the first and 1.7 per cent higher year-on-year.

In the first quarter, euro zone GDP was up 0.6 per cent from the previous quarter, and EU GDP rose 0.5 per cent. Year-on-year, euro zone and EU GDP rose 2.6 per cent.

Analysts had predicted euro zone Q2 GDP would rise 0.1 per cent from the first quarter and 1.7 per cent year-on-year.
