Brussels - The European Commission will set out the benefits of EU membership for Turkish Cypriots in a document due to be published this week and urge them to end their decades-old dispute with their Greek Cypriot neighbours.
According to excerpts of the eagerly-awaited report, the Commission said both Greek and Turkish Cypriots would get human rights guarantees once the whole island entered the EU under the bloc's expansion plan.
The annual enlargement report on Cyprus, due out today, coincides with growing anxiety in the EU over the prospect of admitting a divided island, especially after Turkey threatened last week to annex northern Cyprus if that happened.
