An IRA man on the run has described in this week's edition of An Phoblacht/Republican News how he escaped from the Maze prison dressed as a woman. Liam Averill (32) of Maghera, Co Derry, was serving a life sentence for murdering two men in Garvagh, Co Derry, in 1994. He says he passed through four checks by prison officers after he changed into women's clothes, a wig and make-up and mingled with visitors during a Christmas party for prisoners' children. Averill has been at large since December 10th.
