The Environmental Protection Agency is to holding an investigation into a chemical spillage at a pharmaceutical plant in Cork Harbour which resulted in 14 workers being taken to hospital.

Warner Lambert Export Ltd confirmed that a small solvent spillage occurred inside a production building at its plant in Ringaskiddy at 11.40 a.m. yesterday. The spillage was of around 100 litres.

According to a spokesman for the company, it was decided to send a number of workers to Cork University Hospital as a precautionary measure. It is understood the spillage was of tetrohydrafuron - a solvent which at high levels can be toxic.
