Monaghan County Council has been prosecuted by the Environmental Protection Agency. Twenty-five charges under the Waste Management Act relate to the control and management of the local authority landfill site for Co Monaghan at Scotch Corner, Letterbane.
Some charges allege failure by the county council to comply with the conditions of the waste licence granted by the EPA to ensure that all liquid waste was tankered for treatment at Ballybay waste water treatment plant or a similar facility. Other charges allege that the council disposed of waste at a facility other than in accordance with the regulations.
Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case to September 19th.
