HORIZONS:Dr John Feehan will give a free public lecture on the changing flora of Ireland's bogs and eskers at 3pm on Wed, April 14, at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin. Dr Feehan has researched and written extensively on Ireland's environmental heritage and history. He is a senior lecturer in the faculty of agrifood and the environment at UCD, and his most recent book is The Wildflowers of Offaly.

Gardeners at the National Botanic Gardens will give a workshop on growing organic vegetables on Sat, April 17, also at the Botanic Gardens. Admission is €30. To book for both events, tel. 01-8570909.

Natural medicine man 

Interest in discovering wild foods in our fields and woodlands is growing, and Dr Peter Wyse-Jackson, director of the National Botanic Gardens, is undertaking ethnobotanical research on the uses of wild plants in Ireland. This month, he will give two workshops exploring plants used for food and medicines. The first workshop goes ahead in the National Biodiversity Data Centre, Waterford Institute of Technology on Sat, April 17. To book, tel. 051-306240. The Greenhouse, St Andrew Street, Dublin, is the venue for an Eco-Fair on Sat, April 10.
