England's Euro 2004 qualifier in Slovakia will go ahead tonight despite heavy downpours having initially put the match in doubt.

Sven-Goran Eriksson travelled to the stadium to assess the conditions this afternoon along with Football Association officials.

However, after consultations, the UEFA delegate in charge of the match decided that an official pitch inspection was not necessary.

The kick-off is therefore scheduled to take place as planned at 6.30pm Irish time, although the conditions are bound to be unfavourable due to the heavy downpours which have hit Slovakia over the past few days.
