England could be set to figure in a regular Tri-Nations series also featuring Australia and South Africa.
Discussions have taken place to expand the usual one-off Autumn tests into a triangular tournament at Twickenham in 2004.
All three countries are looking at incorporating a match between South Africa and Australia and a final for the best performing sides.
"It is on the agenda, and there is support for a triangular series," Australian Rugby Union chief executive John O'Neill has confirmed.
"From the meeting, we will now put forward a full proposal to the International Rugby Board with the hope of the triangular series beginning in 2004.
"What it involves for the teams is just two extra games and will move away from the one-off Test series involving England, which has now been operating for a number of years," he said.
