Spain's Sergio Garcia fired a four-under par 67 today to defeat Scott Hoch by three strokes and winhis second PGA Tour event on United States soil, the 3.5 million-dollar Buick Classic.

Garcia finished at 16-under par 269 to capture the 630,000-dollar top prize at Westchester Country Club. He sank a tap-in birdie on the final hole after nearly chipping in from the fringe for an eagle.

The 21-year-old nicknamed "El Nino" won his first US PGA title five weeks ago at The Colonial and was no worse the 12th in his past five starts.

The Spaniard, who led at the turn in last year's final round but finished one stroke out of a title playoff, began the round with a two-stroke edge and was caught only when Hoch birdied the fourth and fifth holes.

Garcia answered with a birdie at the sixth and was never matched again.

Hoch finished with a 68 for the third day in a row. He played alongside Garcia all four days.

Storms pushed back the third round yesterday and organizers decided to play the final 18 holes today rather than shorten the event to 54 holes. -AFP
