FURTHER disruption to Eircell services is expected next week after the breakdown of talks between the company and the Civil and Public Services Union, reports Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent.

This follows a refusal by the company to stop recruiting staff on the new, lower salary scale, during talks at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday.

"The company does not seem to be prepared to find a resolution to the problem," CPSU assistant general secretary Mr Derek Mullen said last night. "They want to recruit lower grade personnel when people in Telecom are willing to transfer into Eircell. We are sick of listening to Mr Alfie Kane talking about shedding 5,000 to 6,000 jobs, when there are people in Telecom ready and willing to do this work."

The CPSU staff are in customer operations, where new subscribers have been experiencing delays of seven to 10 days in obtaining mobile phone services.
