EIGHT suspected IRA activists were remanded in custody, at Belmarsh magistrates' court, south London, on Saturday charged with conspiring to cause explosions, reports Rachel Borrill, in London.
Amid tight security, the men were brought to court in armoured vans and under police escort.
The defendants appeared before the magistrates separately and none of them spoke during the 50 minute hearing. They were all remanded in custody until July 26th.
Those charged were: Mr Martin Thomas Murphy (38), Mr Patrick Hugh Martin (34), Mr Francis Owen Rafferty (44), all unemployed and from Belfast; Mr Donald Francis Gannon (33), Mr Gerald Thomas Hanrattty (37), both from Dublin; Mr Robert Eoin Morrow (36), from Dundalk, Co Louth, Mr Clive Peter Brampton (36), a self employed businessman from Birmingham and Mr John Patrick Crawley (39), a former American marine who gave his address as Rathfarnham, Dublin.
