Students from third-level colleges across Ireland will take part in a 10-kilmetre sponsored walk on November 15th to benefit the Chernobyl Children's Project (CCP).

Last year's event raised more than £180,000. "This year every college in Ireland has organised a walk and we are confident the money will be doubled," says Richard Hammond, president of the Union of Students in Ireland (USI). USI is organising "the biggest student charity event ever" with Bank of Ireland.

Adi Roche, executive director of the CCP, says continuing efforts to aid people affected by the 1986 Chernobyl accident are vital. "Scientists predict the worst effects will not be felt for another 20 years."
