AS CASES of sexual abuse continue to hit the headlines, teachers who are worried about handling disclosures might benefit from formal training in this sensitive area.

To this end, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is continuing its successful series of workshops on sexual, abuse, suitable for teachers and guidance counsellors.

There will be two one-day seminars dealing with issues in sexual-abuse counselling on Wednesday, September 25th, and Wednesday, October 23rd. No previous training is required and the cost is £50.

The DRCC is also offering a series of two-day workshops for guidance counsellors, starting on October 1st and 2nd and October 8th and 9th. These workshops will focus on working with students who have been sexually abused; then, later in the year, there will be follow-on workshops offering the opportunity to explore the process of sexual-abuse counselling at a deeper level.
