The Minister for Education has announced sanction for an investment of more than £2.3 million in the second phase of the development of the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. The Minister is likely to visit Dun Laoghaire in the next fortnight to view progress on the first phase of the development, which began last November. The total cost of the development plan, which includes two new schools - of science and technology and business and humanities - will be in the order of £8 million. When completed, the development will provide a new library, advanced computer labs, demonstration classrooms, a lecture theatre a canteen and other student-support facilities. Student numbers will increase from the current full-time enrolment of 500 to 1,000 at the end of the first phase and 1,500 by 2002, when the development should be completed.
