Open Door is a series of six short novels aimed at adult literacy students. The novels are written by well known authors such as Roddy Doyle, Patricia Scanlan and Deirdre Purcell and they combine simple vocabulary with easy-to-read print and an engaging story to tempt the adult reader. The themes covered include love, family problems, emigration and sport.
Bank of Ireland provided funding to the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC) to buy the books for the estimated 2,000 literacy students in the greater Dublin area, but the books are available to other literacy schemes. For information contact Jacinta Stewart, education officer at CDVEC, telephone (01) 668 0614 or fax (01) 668 0710.
