Students at Firhouse Community College in Dublin and St Colman's College, Claremorris, Co Mayo, spent last week hosting the European Student Conference. The conference was opened in Firhouse last Tuesday by MEPs Mary Banotti and Bernie Malone.

The conference is part of the European Studies Project, which links senior students from various European countries. They collaborate on projects that cover social, environmental and political issues to do with European affairs and communicate their research through the Internet. In all, 40 students and 12 teachers took part in the conference. The students from Dublin and Mayo greeted their counterparts schools - they were St Louise's Comprehensive College, Belfast; Kooperative Gesamtschule in Hage, Germany; Lycee College in Auray, France; Vejen Ervhavervsskole in Vejen, Denmark; Athenee Royal de Woluwe Saint Pierre in Brussels, Belgium; Lugnetgymnasiet in Falun, Sweden' and Cardinal Wiseman School in Coventry, England.
