A teaching pack based on the findings of students who talked to successful entrepreneurs in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area is now available. The students who were involved in the project came from 10 schools in south Co Dublin and were drawn from various courses at senior level, Transition Year, LCA, Leaving Cert Business, PLC and LCVP. They visited nearly 60 entrepreneurs, asking questions about their formative influences and about their success.
Intended as a resource for teachers, the Enterprise Encounter pack was compiled by Joseph Keating, a teacher at Cabinteely Community School. It includes profiles, notes on interviews, teamwork, brainstorming, creative thinking and a start-me-up section. "The pack teaches students to tap into the life stories and business experiences of local entrepreneurs," says Keating. "It encourages them to undertake an enterprise of their own."
Funded by the Department of Education and Science and Venturepoint, the Dun LaoghaireRathdown County Enterprise Board, the pack is available from Blackrock Education Centre at £5. For information phone the centre at (01) 230 0977.
