Taking a trip to Trinity College Dublin may no longer be necessary for those interested in seeing the Book of Kells. Last week, a CD-ROM of the entire 680-page manuscript became available at the Library Shop on the college campus.

The CD-ROM includes a zoom feature, which allows readers to examine the illuminated folio in detail. The history of the manuscript is narrated by Olivia O`Leary and Stephen Rea. Decorative and symbolic themes found throughout the manuscript are explained and detailed reproductions of 14 of the most significant pages are included.

A numbered limited edition of 500 copies of the CD-ROM with a specially commissioned cover designed by Malcolm Garrett is available for £40. The CD-ROM, priced at £20, is also available online at www.bookofkells.ie.
