Douglas Community School Douglas, Co Cork
ON SINGING
Liam Cuthbert:
I’m in the school choir, and every year we put on a Christmas and Advent mass for the first-year students.
Sometimes we enter competitions, and I once went to Japan with the choir. I really enjoy singing, and I might keep it up after school.
ON BASKETBALL IN CORK
Niall McCarthy:
Cork has a state-of-the-art sports gym with a great basketball arena.
I play with the school basketball team, and last year we won the Cork city basketball championships.
ON MICHAEL JACKSON
Niall McCarthy:
I liked Michael Jackson's songs before he died. I'm really looking to seeing This Is It,the film made before he died.
People are talking about Michael Jackson again, except this time they’re talking about his music, rather than his personal life.
ON THE APPRENTICE
David Kelly:
I’d love to be on that show! I think it makes business really interesting.
I’m the chair of our TY mini-company, and we’re selling cookies and doughnuts to the other students.
The school tuck shop may not like it, but it’s all about competition!
ON THE IRISH GOVERNMENT
Liam Cuthbert:
They’re no good. They got us into this mess, and I think the cuts should start at the very top. The highest earners should pay more.
The Taoiseach Brian Cowen might take a cut, but he’s one of the best-paid leaders in the world.
ON IRISH SOCCER
Niall McCarthy:
So far, I think the Irish soccer team have performed really well.
Trapattoni is a good manager and he’s taken the team further than they would otherwise have gone.
ON THE SCHOOL PLAY
Rob Lehane:
This year, we're putting on a performance of The Wizard of Oz.
The film was really good for when it was made, and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of the Cowardly Lion. It should be good fun.
