NUI Galway Open Day

The NUI Galway Open Day will take place from 9am to 3pm on Thursday, October 9th. The day provides an ideal opportunity for anyone considering applying to NUI Galway to talk to staff and students. Visitors can view a full range of course-specific exhibition stands and avail of interactive taster sessions on a wide range of subjects. The next edition of the primary school magazine Art in the Classroom will be published with The Irish Timeson Tuesday, October 21st. The magazine is aimed at six to 11 year-olds and will contain features on the pop artist Julian Opie and Halloween traditions. Irish Times/RTÉ Music in the Classroom

An additional concert has been added to the schedule of primary- school concerts and will take place in Dundalk IT on Tuesday, October 21st. All primary school concerts in Dublin, Limerick and Galway are fully booked.

There are still limited spaces for the Junior Cert concerts in Dublin's National Concert Hall on November 10th and 11th. For information on booking for any of these concerts, e-mail: mitc@irish-times.ie

Lecture at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick

"Globalisation, Lifelong Learning and the Learning Society" is the title of a lecture by Prof Peter Jarvis on Friday, October 10th, at 6.30pm in lecture theatre LG9 at Mary Immaculate College. All are welcome and the lecture is free.

UL Kemmy Business School Distinguished Lecture

The annual Kemmy Business School Distinguished Lecture will take place at UL at 7pm today. The lecture, entitled "On lame ducks, tigers and Irish luck: an historical perspective on recent Irish development", will be delivered by professor of history at NUI Galway Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh.The lecture is free of charge and open to the public.

European Symposium at UCC

"Europe: International Power" is the title of a symposium organised by the Alliance Française de Cork with support from UCC's department of government tomorrow from 8.30am to 5.30pm in the Aula Maxima, UCC.

Guest speakers include Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin and Viscount Etienne Davignon, the Belgian minister of state and former vice-president of the European Commission.
