THE Minister for Education and Science, Micheal Martin, will launch A Space to Grow in Dublin today. This 120-page publication, prepared for primary teachers by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), details projects developed by IMMA's education and community department since its inception in 1991.
"The most fascinating sections of this book are the interviews with the teachers," writes Andy Pollock, education correspondent of this newspaper, in the preface. He mentions Mary Murray driving home to Roscommon after one workshop, seeing everything with new eyes and a heightened sense of colour and texture. He quotes Paddie Murphy, principal of a south Dublin national school, who says: "Shy, inhibited children seemed more extrovert and confident after a museum visit." The book is available from the museum for £9.95 plus £2 postage.
