Later this month the Association of Materials, Technology and Graphics Teachers (AMTGT) will holds its annual meeting along with a major exhibition and conference in Ballina, Co Mayo. More than 1,000 visitors are expected to attend. It's an opportunity to view craft and design skills of second-level students. The best projects will be awarded prizes.
Workshops will be held over the twoday event - on Friday, March 19th, between 4 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. and on Saturday, March 20th, between 9 a.m. to 2. p.m. "For students it's a rare opportunity to see the national standard of their peers and to view at close range true craftsmen at work," says Gerry Lynch, national vice-chairman of the AMTGT and conference co-ordinator.
There will also be exhibitions by companies along with demonstrations of woodworking skills and techniques. Computer workshops will include AutoCAD and Internet displays.
