Describing herself as a "newcomer" to the Ericsson fold, Orlaith Nugent explains that she's been with the company only since last January. Until then, she worked in Grange Community College, Donaghmede, Dublin. During her two years there she had done a H Dip. Her primary degree was a B Sc from DCU.
"I was interested in technology and was feeling that the situation in secondary schools was restrictive at the moment," she says. "I thought it would be more interesting and varied in the IT area and in technical training in particular."
The crunch came last summer in the United States - she was working in Colorado on Web development. "It rekindled all my feeling for technology and I knew I wanted to get back into the field."
Nugent is giving her first course as a teacher this week but has already had solo teaching days and been in on courses as an assistant teacher. "After the initial impact of all those adult eyes looking at you it was the same as being in any classroom," she says.
"I'll be teaching people from all over the world but language won't be a problem since it's not so much English as a technical language you use. From my experience as a teacher I didn't expect this work to be as open as it is. I like the fact that problems aren't hidden.
"If there's something you don't understand you just ask and it's immediately explained. There's a college atmosphere, doors are always open and there's friendly help here for one and all."
Does this perfect job have a flaw? "The long summer holidays - I regret them. Who wouldn't?"
