THE Association of Teachers of English has organised an essay competition to honour the memory of Gus Martin, who died in October of last year.
Martin was professor of Anglo-Irish literature at UCD and a founder member of the association. Leaving Certificate students are invited to write an essay (about 2,000 words long) on any aspect of an Anglo-Irish writer (or of Anglo-Irish writers) they find interesting and exciting. The closing date for the competition is Friday, May 3rd. Enquiries to Kate O'Carroll, chairperson, ATE (tel: (01) 671 1435).
